Most of Samsung's high-end smartphones released in the US in recent years have been sold via all major carriers: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. Unfortunately, this won't be the case with the Galaxy Fold, Samsung's newest Android handset that's bound to revolutionize the smartphone industry with its two displays and its clever folding design. Samsung states that the Galaxy Fold - announced today - will be sold only "through AT&T and T-Mobile" in the US. For some unknown reason, it looks like Verizon and Sprint customers are being left out. We're contacting Samsung to try and find out why the Galaxy Fold will see a somewhat limited release, and we'll update this article when we hear back.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold - seen in the promo video above - will be released on April 26 for a suggested retail price of $1,980. That's almost two thousand dollars, so many users will simply not be able to afford the device.
High price aside, the Samsung Galaxy Fold is a pretty impressive gadget. On the outside, the handset sports a 4.6-inch display with 840 x 1960 pixels, but, on the inside, it hides a 7.3-inch flexible AMOLED display with 1536 x 2152 pixels. So this is a relatively normal phone when closed, but it becomes a tablet when folded open - perfect for multitasking, gaming, and watching video content on the go. Equally important, the Galaxy Fold packs a super-speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 12 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage space, and two batteries that provide a combined power of 4,380 mAh. The new phone will run Android 9 Pie out of the box.
